10th Series Test Dogs

Test Dogs:

AFC Step On It Margaret – “Gretta,” LF

Owned and Handled: Mark Jenson

First up ... Mark and Gretta came to the line at 10:23 am

F – Nice recovery of flyer.

SR – Down the hill, over the berm and she scooped up her bird.

RR – Running wide right she hits the near corner of timber and hunts. She's back in view and works towards the far corner to find her bird.

LR – Coming along the left alley-way. She gets to the area of the fall – takes a right and then on to her bird.

Next ...  Joe and Steel came to the line at 10:31 am

F – Very good!

SR – In at the area of bird and then he has it!

LR – Entering the field left of the power lines, he establishes a hunt behind the gunners and is handled to the bird.

RR – Running to the near corner of timber, and then back along the mowed corridor – back out to the far corner where he located his bird.

 

 

9th Series Test Dogs

First ... Mark and Gretta came to the line at 11:25 am

F – Straight under the arc and turned quickly for the bird.

SR – Down to the flat area and hunted close to the road – then into the heavy cover strips and she got it.

MR – Out to the flat area again – around the heavy cover on the right – cut in to the hay bales and then worked it out to find her bird.

Next ...  Joe and Steel came to the line at 11:32 am

F – Straight to the bird!

SR – Came into the fall area – took a turn to the right  – another turn where the guns stood and then he was out to the 2nd strip of cover and the bird.

MR – He hit feathers in the heavy cover strip from the flyer – took a turn and then out left of the bale and on to the correct bale and the bird.

 

 

 

8th Series Test Dogs

First up ...  Joe and Steel came to the line at 6:35 am

Off the mat and over the mound

1 whistle to adjust the line

2 through the tree gap to the water

5 in the water to the point

multiple whistles to the end

Next was Mark and Gretta, they came to the line at 6:51 am

1 whistle just over the mound

4 through the tree gap to the water

7 to the point

9 more to the bird

The first running dog will begin at 7:00 am.

 

They made a minor change to the test after the Test Dogs ran – there had initially been a gunner sitting on the way to the blind and that has been removed.

7th Series Test Dogs

 Test Dogs:

First up was Mark and Gretta, they came to the line at 6:42 am

SimF –  She quickly recovers the simulated flyer drake.

F – Through the water on line to the Left Retired, she punches through to hunt the flyer – sets up an extended hunt and comes back in with her drake.

LR – Lined wide right and needed to be handled to the bird.

MR – Nice line, she cut through the pond – made a pass deep and then came in for her hen.

Next up ...  Joe and Steel came to the line at 7:01 am

SimF –  Sluice is shot and Steel is ready to go! He is out and quickly back with this bird.

F – Headed left but then pulled right to head to the Flyer. A couple passes left and he moves into his flyer.

LR – Going in tight to the trees he hunts the timber area and then locates his bird.

MR – Steel is looking out for his next bird – frost gathering on the edges of his ears. Then he is launched! But missed the mark and is handled to this bird.

 

 

The first running dog will begin at 8:00 am to allow the lighting in the field to come up.

6th Series Test Dogs

 Test Dogs:

First up ...  Joe and Steel came to the line at 1:18 pm

Crossed the road and had multiple tries at the first piece of cover

Missed the second piece – went through the gap of green trees

Got up on the terrace and missed multiple whistles

was wide right and went to the green tree on the right – handled to the bird.

Next up was Mark and Gretta, they came to the line at 1:24 pm

Crossed the road

2 whistles through the cover

Missed the 2nd cover – went through the gap

Top of the terrace had 2 more whistles

1 to get around the mound and out to the bird

This test is taking approximately 2-3 minutes per dog.

 

 

5th Series Test Dogs – Day 2

Test Dog:

A single test dog was run this morning to continue Test 5.

Joe and Steel came to the line at 6:34 am

LF –  Out to the fall area and then he had his bird.

RF – Big hunt, but he got it.

RR – In to the cover – missed it – went up by the blind and established a wide hunt – got it!

LR – Wide area covered looking for this hen pheasant on still frozen ground, but he worked it out and he got it!

 

The first running dog will begin at 7:00 am. It will be 86, 92, 93, 94 and so on.

5th Series Test Dogs

Test Dogs:

First up was Mark and Gretta, they came to the line at 6:48 am

LF –  Quick recovery of this hen pheasant!

RF – Gretta follows a corn row stubble down the field and then cuts across the stubble when she is just past the gunners. She turns right and has the bird.

RR – She heads out down the alley way, pulled up the hill by the big tree beyond the power lines, then bent back towards the bird and got it.

LR – Cutting through the cover and strips, she deflects left. A couple quick loops deep and left and then she swings over to hunt up her bird.

Next up ...  Joe and Steel came to the line at 7:00 am

LF –  Very smart hunt on this one – staying in the area for a nice hunt.

RR – Down the right cover and then across to the left, he drives the hill crossing the mowed lanes to his rooster.

RF – Down the corn rows behind the gunners, he gets past the gunners, cuts right and moves to grab his bird.

LR – Down along the cover, he pulls left – up the hill coming in on the correct side doing an excellent job of digging out his bird.

 

The first running dog will begin after 7:20 am to allow the lighting in the field to come up a little bit more.

4th Series Test Dogs

First up ...  Joe and Steel came to the line at 10:35 am

Sluice ...

Steel went over to the left side, one whistle to adjust, 1 whistle to get into the water, made a zig zag and multiple whistles to get through the key hold and then 2 more whistles at the mound.

Next was Mark and Gretta came to the line at 10:40 am

1st whistle to get over to the left side, 3 more whistles in the the middle, 1 in the water, 2 just out of the water and 2 more to adjust her line to the bird.

 

This test should take the dogs approximately 3 - 3.5 minutes to complete.

3rd Series Test Dogs – Day 2

 Test Dog:

A single test dog was run this morning to continue Test 3.

Mark and Gretta came to the line at 6:22 am

F –  Straight to the bird!

M – She ran a line left of the blind, hunted deep and wide, then got the bird.

LL – Came in and hunted under the arc, then in through the water over to her bird.

3rd Series Test Dogs

First up ...  Joe and Steel came to the line at 6:25 am

F –  Steel made quick work of this flyer.

M – Good line out, swam through the piece of pond, got out and worked the shoreline, got back into the water and over to his bird.

LL – Caught a little piece of the water, made a quick pass behind the gunners and came up with the bird.

Next was Mark and Gretta came to the line at 6:31 am

F –  Scooped up her flyer!

M – Wide line going into the water. Squared across and got out. Short shoreline hunt and then back into the water, she worked over to the island and got the bird.

LL – Through a Small piece of water and to the fall area – stayed in the area and worked her way to find the bird.

 

This test should take the dogs approximately 6 minutes to complete.

1st & 2nd Series Test Dogs

First Test dog, Mark and Gretta came to the line at 7:37 am

F –  Huge long bird that went almost to the tree line – straight to the area – hunted up in the snow and got her bird.

SR – Came in to the fall area – Nice.

Blind – Through both pieces of cover with 1 whistle – a few loops and ducked behind a bale – lost in the cover, but she sorted it out and got it.

Next up ...  Joe and Steel came to the line at 7:43 am

F –  Long low flyer – out to the area – hunted under the arc, then out to the flyer

SR – Came in left of the cover strip and straight to the bird.

Blind – Caught the 1st 2 pieces of cover, multiple whistles and he got into heavy cover behind the bale, worked it out and got his bird.

 

This test should take the dogs approximately 5-7 minutes to complete.
