10th Series – Land Quad with One Flyer and Three Retired

14 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs: Test Dogs came to the line this morning at 10:23 am, beginning with "Gretta," and then "Steel." The competitors got a good look at this Land Quad and what they may expect for this series!

Start: The 10th Series officially kicked off with the first running dog #10 PLEASANT RIVER KING EIDER, “King,” BLM, with handler Hunter Street at 10:52 am.

Conditions: The weather this morning was cold with clear skies, temps remained in the 20's throughout the test and the wind was coming out of the west at 6-10 mph.

Here is how things turned out for the 9th Series…

Finish: Our last running dog for Test 10, was dog #1 FC-AFC MIDWAY’S AVENTADOR, “Jenny,” BLF,  with handler Tim Milligan. They came to the line at 12:58 pm and the test was concluded at 1:06 pm

14 dogs were sent from the line this morning for this test. The series took approximately 2 hours and 14 minutes in total, with the average running time to be about 9.5 minutes per dog.

9th Series – Land Triple with a Flyer, Two Retired and an Honor

14 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs: Test Dogs came to the line this afternoon at 11:25 am, beginning with "Gretta," and then "Steel" was up next to give the teams a good look at this Land Triple.

Start: The Series officially kicked off with the first running dog #49 FC-AFC BAYOU TECHE PAINT THE BLACK, “Madduxx,” BLM, with handler Craig Crook at 11:49 am.

Conditions: The weather this afternoon was cool with mostly cloudy skies, temps remained in the 30's throughout the test and the wind was coming out of the NW at 10 mph.

Here is how things turned out for the 9th Series…

Finish: Our last running dog for Test 9, was dog #46 FC TUCQUAN’S TAKIN’ THE RYSK, “Rysk,” BLM, with handler Hunter Street. They came back to the line for a rerun at 2:01 pm and the test was concluded at 2:07 pm

14 dogs were sent from the line this afternoon for this test. The series took approximately 2 hours and 18 minutes in total, with the average running time to be about 8 minutes per dog. 

And that is it! The 9th Series is Officially in the Books!

8th Series – Water Blind

23 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs: Test Dogs came to the line today at 6:35 am, beginning with "Steel," and then "Gretta" was up next to give the teams a look at this water blind and what would be expected of them.

Start: The Series officially kicked off with the first running dog #14 FC ROBBER’S MS MUDDY PAWS, “Rain,” BLF, with handler Rob Erhardt at 7:07 am. 

Conditions: The weather this morning was crisp and cool with mostly cloudy skies and temps were in the mid 30s. The sun rising didn't warm it up much. There was a NW wind at about 8-10 mph. 

Finish: Our last running dog for Test 8, was dog #13 FC VIEWMARK’S GENE GENE THE SHOOTIN’ MACHINE, “Colt,”  BLM, with handler Danny Farmer. They came to the line at 9:42 am and the test was concluded at 9:48 am

23 dogs were sent from the line Friday for this test. The series took approximately 2 hours and 41 minutes in total, with the average running time to be about 7 minutes per dog. 

The 8th Series is Officially in the Books! Callbacks will be coming up shortly!

7th Series – Water Quad with Two Retired, One Flyer and One Simulated Flyer

32 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs: Test Dogs came to the line today bright and early at 6:42 am, beginning with "Gretta," and then "Steel" was up next to giving the teams a a good look at this large test and what they might expect.

Start: The Series officially kicked off with the first running dog #81 FC FC-AFC LAIRD’S CYNFUL SEASIDE GAMBLE, “Betty,” BLF, with handler Chris Parkinson at 8:03 am! 

Conditions: The weather today was cool with mostly clear skies, the morning temps were in the mid 20s and it warmed up a bit to the low 40's as the sun rose. There was not much wind for most of the day. 

Here is how things turned out for the 7th Series…

Finish: Our last running dog for Test 7, was dog #79 TIOGA APPLE IDOG QAA, “Ti,” BLM, with handler Ed Forry. They came to the line at 2:35 pm and the test was concluded at 2:46 pm

32 dogs were sent from the line Thursday for this test. The series took approximately 6 hours and 43 minutes in total, with the average running time to be about 12 minutes per dog. 

The 7th Series is Officially in the Books, Callbacks are coming this evening and will be posted on the blog. Test dogs will run at 6:30 am on Friday morning for the 8th Series!

6th Series – Land Blind

41 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs: Test Dogs started out the 6th Series at 1:18 pm, beginning with "Steel," and then "Gretta," giving the competitors a quick overview of what to expect in this Land Blind series.

Start: The Series officially kicked off with the first running dog #70 FC-AFC DOCTOR CABERNET JUST IN CASE, “Doc,” BLM, with handler Al Arthur at 1:37 pm this afternoon.

Conditions: The weather this afternoon became mostly cloudy with temps hovering around 40. Some light snow moved in as the series wrapped up!

Finish: Our last running dog for the day and for the 6th Series was dog #64 FC SEASIDE’S LL COOL J, JR, “Cool J,” BLM, with handler Craig Crook. They came to the line at 3:32 pm and the test was concluded at 3:35 pm. 

41 dogs were sent from the line today in this series, taking approximately 1 hour and 58 minutes in total, with the average running time to be just under 3 minutes per dog. It was another fast moving series!

The 6th Series is officially in the books! Callbacks will be coming this evening, posted on the blog and in the callbacks online.
We will be on to the 7th Series tomorrow morning, Good Nite Folks!

5th Series – Land  Quad with Two Retired and Two Flyers

81 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs: Test Dogs started out the day Tuesday bright and early at 6:48 am, beginning with "Gretta," and then "Steel," giving the competitors a look at what the 5th series was all about. On Wednesday morning a single test dog "Steel" was run to show handlers any new conditions and/or factors for the test on the second day.

Start: The Series officially kicked off with the first running dog #27 FC FC-AFC WINDY CITY’S LONE RANGER, “Ranger,” BLM with handler Charlie Hines at 7:22 am on Tuesday! 

Conditions: The weather on Tuesday was wet and cool with cloudy skies, drizzle on and off in the morning and temps in the 40's. There was no wind for most of the day. Wednesday, it cold but it was sunny, with not much breeze present.

Here is how things turned out for the 5th Series…

Finish: Our last running dog for Test 5, was dog #36 FC-AFC BAYOU TECHE EXPRESS, “Ryan,” BLF, with handler Lauren Hays. They came back to to the line for a rerun Wednesday morning at 11:59 am and the test was concluded at 12:06 pm. 

81 dogs were sent from the line Tuesday and Wednesday for this test. The series took approximately 13 hours and 20 minutes in total, with the average running time to be about 8.5 minutes per dog. 

Callbacks are coming up, and then we will be heading on to the 6th Series!

4th Series – Water Blind

81 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs: Test Dogs started out the 4th Series 10:35 am, beginning with "Steel," and then "Gretta," giving the competitors a quick overview of what to expect in this Water Blind series.

Start: The Series officially kicked off with the first running dog #1 FC-AFC MIDWAY’S AVENTADOR, “Jenny,” BLF with handler Tim Milligan at 10:51 am this morning.

Conditions: The weather was mostly clear and sunny all day, with temps starting in the 30s and getting up into the mid 40's. It was a brisk day with a slight breeze going W at or below 6mph.

Finish: Our last running dog for the day, and for Series 4 was dog #99 FC M&T’S MAESTRO’S TANGLED UP IN NOTES QA2, “Rayna,” BLF, with handler Craig Crook. They came to the line Monday afternoon at 3:09 pm and the test was concluded at 3:11 pm. 

81 dogs were sent from the line today in this series, taking approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes in total, with the average running time to be about 3 minutes per dog. It was a fast moving series!

The 4th Series is officially in the books! Callbacks will be coming shortly and we will start the 5th Series Tuesday Morning!

 


3rd Series Recap

Sunday November 13 – Monday November 14, 2022

3rd Series – Land and Water Triple

93 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs: Test Dogs started out the day Sunday bright and early at 6:25 am, beginning with "Steel," and then "Gretta," giving the competitors a look at what this series would have in store for them. On Monday a single test dog "Gretta" was run to show handlers the new conditions for the test on the second day.

Start: The Series officially kicked off with the first running dog #75 FC Crew's Splintered Timber, "Timber," BLM with handler Jerry Patopea at 7:55 am on Sunday! (Fun Fact: Jerry Patopea was the first handler up Saturday too for the 1st and 2nd series test – But he was starting with dog #50 that time)

Conditions: The weather on both days very crisp and frosty in the morning, with temps in the 20’s. Temps reached into the low 40’s later on Sunday, but it remained a mostly cloudy day all day, with a slight breeze at 4 mph and snow still on the ground. Monday it was a clear sky and Sunny with most of the snow melted away from the ground.

Here is how things turned out for the 3rd Series…
No-Bird / Re-Run (9): 4 – 7 – 21 – 43 – 56 – 77 – 87 – 88 – 99
Handles (15): 11 – 12 – 17 – 25 – 27 – 30 – 38 – 41 – 52 – 56 – 60 – 65 – 78 – 82 – 86

Finish: Our last running dog for the day, and for Series 3, was dog #74 FC Kanga's Kryptonite Cocktail, "Kanga" BLF, “Deuce,” with handler Danny Farmer. They came to the line Monday morning at 9:22 am and the test was concluded at 9:28 am. 

93 dogs were sent from the line Sunday and Monday in this series, taking approximately 12 hours and 51 minutes in total, with the average running time to be about 5 minutes per dog. 

Callbacks are next, and then we are on to the 4th Series!

1st & 2nd Series Recap

1st & 2nd Series – Land Double and Land Blind

97 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs started out the day at 7:37 am, beginning with "Gretta," Then came "Steel," giving the competitors a good idea of what they might expect for these first two series. 

Our first running dog #50 FC Black Lager Eleven, "Lager" with handler Jerry Patopea started the 82nd running of the National Retriever Championship at 7:59 am!

Our weather started in the 20’s with snow and sleet early. Temps reached into the upper 30’s later, but it remained mostly cloudy and cold with a slight wind at 8-10 mph. It was a crisp day to be in the field with these talented retriever teams working hard!

Here is how things turned out for the 1st and 2nd Series…
No-Bird / Re-Run (6): 51 – 16 – 26 – 27 – 35 (2x) – 38
Handles (8): 19 – 21 – 23 – 69 – 74 – 77 – 82 – 87
Double Handles (1): 26
Pick-Ups (2): 2 – 89
Scratches (2): 42 – 71

Our last running dog for the day, and for Series 1 and 2 was dog #35 H FORD 11, “Deuce,” BLM with handler Alex Drent. They came to the line at 4:38 pm and he completed the test and the day was called by the judges at 4:42 pm. 

97 dogs were sent from the line today in these series, taking 9 hours and 05 minutes in total, which averages out to be just around 5.5 minutes per dog. 

Callbacks are coming soon, and then we are on to the 3rd Series – Let's go!
